When was the last time you were proud of someone?  Like really proud?

Being a pastor of sorts, working with so many kids from all kinds of backgrounds and family structures, has taught me that there are so many different types of people in this world.  There really are.  And while each student or adult is unique with a unique lens through which they see our world, most of us all have common aches.

We get run down and tired.

We have mood swings.

It’s easier to work ourselves up than calm ourselves down.

…And we can’t turn away from beautiful things.

No matter where we find it, when you see something beautiful or lovely, it makes a dent in even the hardest of heart.  It’s why we cry at Dove commercials and fall silent in the woods or want to make out with our significant others at the beach.

Beauty gives us all the feels.

I say all this because last night, my wife (who sings sometimes) was sent a link to a recording of her singing a few weeks ago in church.  That would have been great in itself, but she and I have never actually had a well done recording of her singing before.  So it was more than a bit exciting!

We watched it together, my heart started swelling up with pride at not just my wife’s singing (that part was awesome!) but even more so about how Sheri’s song was helping others to fall in love with God.  It was taking the normal and pulling us all into the supernatural.

It was beautiful.

And it makes me so humbled and proud.
There is nothing like watching your spouse win in their own way and being able to cheer them on as they do.

To take pride in your home team.

To be an unapologetical, 100% shameless homer.

And then watching God take their gift to new heights.  It’s awesome.

And yes, it’s this video below πŸ™‚

  1. Amen & Amen, from a proud father (very unapologetically proud)! We, as parents, have played worship music in our home all of our children’s lives & they have all been affected by that influence. Having had our own Christian “rock band” for 8 years (back in the day) & personally having penned the songs of praise, worship & “message songs”, we are most greatful that God has chosen our Sheri to carry on that same inspired heart-felt (& in her case, anointed) message in song. As someone once said, ‘Music is what emotions sound like’. And Sheri’s emotions are coming from the right place. Thank you, Joel, for recognizing what we have seen coming. Don’t ever let go of that precious talent you married!
